Construction of a side return extension in Portsmouth has reached completion. The property consists of four floors located in a Southsea Conservation area on the western side of a semi-detached block. The existing rear/side extensions were demolished and replaced with a design more in keeping with a Victorian property whilst allowing space for a new kitchen/dining area, WC and shower room.
The scale, texture and colour of building materials have been thoughtfully included to contribute to the special character of the area, whilst creating an attractive, well designed extension. The use of buff coloured parapet coping stones, Velux roof windows in black conservation style and matching facing brickwork minimises impact. The flat roof rear extension enables the original window opening to the rear first floor bedroom to be preserved. A new, clearly identifiable building entrance was also added to the side, contributing to the ease of understanding of the building.
We provided professional assistance with the preparation and submission of successful planning and building control applications. We prepared accurate existing and proposed digital drawings and acted as agents to correspond with building control officers. We also assisted in the preparation and collation of a specification/schedule of works to allow for accurate pricing of the works.
